AND THEY’RE OFF: Not only should you head out to Del Mar Track for the races and horse parlay, another reason to go is for the “Four O’Clock Friday” summer concert series. This week: The Soft Pack. They’re an indie-rock band who’ve been compared to The Strokes because of their energetic 70’s-inspired sound. For concert-only access, it’ll be $20, but if you’re going to see the races as well--and who wouldn’t—then it’s only $6. The concert will follow the last race, which begins at 7:30 p.m.
IT’S A MUSIC THING: Seriously. Today marks the first day of The North Park Music Thing, an annual 2-day music event. You’ll learn about music, listen to it and (hopefully) appreciate it. All proceeds will go toward the San Diego Music Foundation and the San Diego Music Awards show. The event will take place at the Lafayette Hotel & Suites. A one day pass is $19 and two days is $34.
MORE MUSIC PLEASE: Have enough music choices? Didn’t think so. The Canadian-born, San Diego-dwelling, Steve Poltz is playing at The Casbah. This acoustic-only performer has helped write songs for Jewel and played in the indie-rock band, The Rugburns. Look forward to his simple melodies and quirky lyrics.
