The long awaited, much-anticipated blockbuster 'Transformers' sequel filmed some of it’s action-packed scenes in America’s Finest City

The production crew filmed a shoot-out sequence in and around a bunker on the Coronado Naval Base that borders Imperial Beach; other scenes were shot aboard the USS Topeka submarine, which is stationed on Point Loma. The filmmakers even used some sailors as movie extras.
The long awaited, much anticipated blockbuster sequel, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” has some of the newest special effects technology and filmed some of its action-packed scenes in America’s Finest City, according to the online news site Shoot.
With the assistance of the San Diego Film Commission and the OK from the U.S. Department of Defense, the sequel to 2007’s hit “Transformers” shot several scenes on military bases in San Diego and Coronado.
One of the movie’s most action-packed scenes was filmed while a CH-53 Marine helicopter flew over San Diego Bay from the east end of Harbor Island to the convention center while a Saturn was suspended in midair below the chopper. The car was drained of all fluids and filled with foam so it was guaranteed to float.
If you’re worried about the powerhouse movie having a negative impact on San Diego’s luscious scenery, don’t be. The movie being filmed here was not only good for San Diego’s public image, it has also made an economic impact.
“Productions such as ‘Transformers’ allow other filmmakers to see how friendly San Diego is to on-location filming, attracting future film productions and showcases our unique filming opportunity,” Film Commissioner Cathy Anderson said.
Need proof? The production crew spent an estimated $250,000 in San Diego during the filming and occupied about 250 hotel rooms around the city.
