San Diego County Fair Breaks All-Time Record

Record attendance numbers at the 2009 San Diego County Fair

The San Diego County Fair wrapped up its 22-day event, hitting an all-time high record. 1,274,442 guests enjoyed this year's "Music Mania", according to fair officials. The highest single day attendance for 2009 was July 3, with 8,087 people. The previous attendance record was set in 2007, with 1,265,997 fair-goers.

So, with this many people visiting the fair, you can imagine all the food that was consumed! Sold this year were: 8,000 Zucchini Weenies; 10,000 Deep Fried S'mores; 13,000 Deep Fried Twinkies; 28,000 Deep Fried Oreos;  2,000 pounds of Deep Fried Frog Legs (turning a little green yet?); 20,000 pieces of Chocolate Covered Bacon, and the list goes on. If you could think of it, the fair fried it up!

“We want to thank everyone for coming and hope they had a great start to the summer at the San Diego County Fair,” said Tim Fennell, CEO and General Manager of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. “We are pleased to provide our community and families with an opportunity to have fun and play for a day at the Fair during a difficult economy."
