The cast of Princess and the Black-eyed Pea celebrate world premier at the Lyceum Theatre
An American Idol finalist, Broadway stars and gospel greats star in the world premier of "The Princess and the Black-eyed Pea" at San Diego REPertory Theatre at the Lyceum, Horton Plaza. It's also the Theatre's largest production ever.
The cast for the heartwarming musical includes Tony award winner Broadway star Lillias White as Queen Zauba, American Idol finalist Sabrina Sloan as Princess Quelie, Lion King's Josh Tower as Prince Gallant. "The energy and talent of our cast of performers is extraordinary, the comedic turns and surprises in the dances and staging are buoyant and delightful, the music is electric, heart warming and inspiring." says Sam Woodhouse, artistic director for the REP.
The heartwarming musical set in the heart of two exotic African kingdoms tells the story of a young princess and her search for true love. It combines jealousy, misunderstanding, sabotage and a sacred and legendary Black-Eyed Pea test. . "The Princess and the Black-eyed Pea" features a cast of 15 performers and a live band. Musical scores range from gospel to funky rhythm and blues to tropical African world beat and soaring pop ballads. "I predict it will be one of the most entertaining, delightful and joyous works of musical theatre ever to grace our stages" adds Woodhouse.
"The Princess and the Black-eye Pea" previews begin Nov 23. The play opens Dec 2 and continues through Dec 21 at the Lyceum Theatre.
