Hispanic Foundation Offers Scholarships

The Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards offers scholarships for college students. The drive launches in search of young Latino leaders.

Latino High School seniors are eligible to apply for thousands of dollars in educational grants and a chance to being honored as role models at a high profile regional event.

Applications are now available online at NBCsandiego.com search "Hispanic Heritage." The deadline has been extended to March 13, 2009 at midnight.

Students are selected for their accomplishments in the classroom, community, and for their interest in several categories. Three students will be honored (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) in each of the six categories throughout 12 regions. 

The 2009 HHYA categories are:
 
Business- National Society of Hispanic MBAs
Education- Sponsored by Southwest Airlines
Engineering & Mathematics - Sponsored by ExxonMobil
Journalism - Sponsored by NBC Universal
Sports - Sponsored by SUBWAY
Science & Healthcare

The Youth Awardees are chosen by regional selection committees in each of the regions.  In the spring, HHYA ceremonies will be coordinated at top colleges and universities in each of the 12 regions in honor of the young role models and their sponsors.

This year's local awards ceremony will be at the Univeristy of San Diego on Wednesday, April 22 at 7 p.m..
