Mayor Jerry sanders will be proclaiming April 8, 2009 as "Start! Walking Day" in San Diego.

Over 400 San Diegans will join the American Heart Association in a short wellness walk through Downtown during lunchtime.

The event will take place at noon at the San Diego Community Councourse Plaza. Health screenings, live entertainment, giveaways, and Subway sandwiches are included.

According to the AHA, studies suggest implementing a worksite physical activity program and promoting a culture of physical activity will help companies increase productivity, reduce absenteeism, lower turnover, and reduce hard costs. Employers can save $16 for every $1 they spend on health and wellness.
