How many San Diegans do you know are here because of a trade?
In May 1978, the Chargers sent two draft picks to the Detroit Lions for Linebacker Jim Laslavic. He's been here ever since.
After a 10-year NFL career, "Laz" made the transition into broadcasting. Since 1989, he's been NBC 7/39's Sports Director, with sports reports Sunday through Thursday at 6 and 11 p.m.
Laz is also the host of Primetime Sportswrap following Sunday Night Football on NBC and also Sportswrap at 11:35 on Sundays. His duties have taken him to Super Bowls, the World Series and the Olympics.
His interest in sports started as a youngster near Pittsburgh. A graduate of Etna High School, Laz is s a member of the inaugural class of Shaler Area High School Sports Hall of Fame. His jersey #33 was retired.
He's a graduate of Penn State University and played for legendary coach Joe Paterno. Laz is also a member of the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
A multiple local Emmy winner, Laz can also be heard doing morning sports reports on KPRI radio and during the Chargers season hosts the radio pre-game show and works as the sideline reporter at home games on Rock 105.3.
Laz is a popular public speaker around town and estimates he's spoken at over 1,000 functions since 1978. He has hosted a celebrity golf tournament for over 20 years, helping raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.
Jim and his wife Susan have two children and enjoy weekend trips to Warner Springs.
