Last-Minute Shoppers May Get Best Deals

Most retailers have marked items down by 40 to 60 percent, according to Glendale Galleria general manager Larry Martin.

Last-minute shoppers scouring stores in the final days before Christmas may be scoring the best deals this season.

“We bought our Starbucks, now we just have to do it,” said one Glendale Galleria shopper, armed with a personal shopping cart to carry all the items she intended to purchase.

“This is probably the best week to shop,” said the galleria’s general manager Larry Martin.

He said most retailers have marked items down by 40 to 60 percent and that those discounts are expected to increase within the next couple days.

Some stores have catered to the stragglers by offering discounts solely for this week.

Williams Sonoma, for example, is giving $10 gift certificates to customers to shop with in January if they spend $50 or more.

And for those hoping to dodge the crowds, many stores will have special hours this week.

“We’re open early till late,” said Martin of the galleria’s hours. “Even Macy’s, the department store, is extending their hours Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week until 2 a.m.”

This is a relief to those who prefer in-store shopping to online sales.

“Customers love to come and touch and feel what they are going to buy and try it on and so forth,” Martin said.
