SAN DIEGO -- The presumptive Republican presidential nominee brought his campaign to San Diego on Monday.

U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., attended a private fundraising luncheon in La Jolla and an afternoon town hall meeting in Chula Vista for military families.
McCain held a meet and greet with supporters at a $1,000-per-plate, noon-hour appearance at the San Diego Marriott La Jolla hotel. Members of the unions comprising the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council have announced they would picket outside the hotel in protest of what they call McCain's "failed economic policies."Anti-war protesters also held a rally outside the luncheon. Two dozen members of unions comprising the local labor council showed up with picket signs, saying McCain's approaches are a disaster for working families seeking financial stability, mortgages and affordable health care.The town hall meeting took place at 1:15 p.m. at VFW Post 2111 in Nerat Hall in Chula Vista. Those in attendance applauded his unwavering commitment to the war in Iraq.The visit will be McCain's first trip to California since he officially became the presumptive Republican nominee. The senator recently returned from a trip to the Middle East.
