Sleepless San Diego Raises Funds and Awareness for the Homeless

Homelessness is one of the most concerning issues in San Diego, and for 10,000 in our community, it’s an unfortunate reality.

On September 24th, the San Diego Rescue mission is hosting the 5th Annual “Sleepless San Diego” Event. This fundraiser  puts supporters in the ‘shoes’ of the cause: Participants spend a night sleeping on the street to gain some perspective on what it would be like to not have a home. The goal of the event is to raise awareness and support for the thousands of men, women, and children affected by homelessness. One out of three homeless San Diegans has a family, one in four is between the ages of 18 and 30, and one in six is a military veteran. (www.homeagainsd.org)

Those willing to sleep on the street for the cause will hear compelling personal stories from those who have experienced the hardships of homelessness firsthand.  Not all serious and somber, attendees will enjoy food and entertainment, headlined by Phil Wickham along with several local artists will play live throughout the evening. Authenticating the experience, participants will be issued a cot or cardboard to sleep on, although a long way from comfortable; the event will take place in a well-lit, fenced area, and private security guards will patrol all night. There is also a large free parking lot across the street from the event.

Both day and overnight “sleep out” passes are available online. To join the 2000+ men and women who have already committed to raising awareness and funds for homelessness, you can register to sleep out, sponsor a sleeper, or donate by visiting the website:
