SD United Kicks Off Season May 21st, 2010

Spring isn’t just for NBA playoffs and baseball!  SD United is kicking off for their third year in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL).  The WPSL is an independent national soccer league whose goal is the development of highly competitive amateur women’s soccer teams, as well as  to promote female athletes as role models for youths in the community.  It’s a great family activity if you have kids or teens involved or interested in soccer, these athletes are truly an inspiration to watch in action!

Established in 2008, SD United will return this season to the University of San Diego’s Torero Stadium with continuing Head Coach, Elio Bello, an Italian native of Napoli, with more that 25 years of soccer experience.  Manny Sandoval will return as Assistant Coach, as will Laura Corbisez will return as General Manager.  Returning players include; Maddie Tantillo, Stephanie Ochs, Rebekah Patrick, Mariette Boyce, Lindsay Browne, and Michele Dalton.  Along with these talented players, SD United is looking at players from Italy, Brazil, Wales, and England to increase their depth as a team.  To learn more about the players and SD United, visit their website at www.sdunited.net.

WPSL was formed in 1998, and is sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association as an affiliate of the United States Soccer Federation.  Their season runs May 1st – August 6th, and teams can expect to play 10-16 games during the season.
