Committed to her education, she will let nothing get in her way of achieving her goals. That means walking away from fights and disagreements if necessary.

Video from an exhibit called "A Different Life," at the San Diego Historical Society, documents the lives of five Somali girls, including Muna Afbali, July’s Inspirational Student of the Month.

Almost 16 years old, Muna is now a student at the Crawford Educational Complex, where she plays basketball, has lots of friends, and excels in school.

She was nominated by Christina Piranio from the International Rescue Committee.

Her words of inspiration: don't let anger control you.

Muna wants to go to UCLA or UCSD when she graduates.
