Comic-Con Frenzy Underway

Oh man, it is going to be one of those days: strange, weird, bizarre. And its barely 8am.

Of course, all of this can be explained by one thing: ComiCon.

I decided to avoid an anticipated traffic mess downtown, by hopping on the trolley at Qualcomm stadium. The trolley station is packed! And some of the riders appear to be from another planet. In thier minds, they are!

I am standing next to this guy who is wearing what can be described as black ballerina tights, he's got a black bonnet on with big ole floppy bunny ears, a goth-style lip ring and poofy tail! I ask him what character he is dressed as.

"Just role playing, he says. "I'm kind of a drag queen."

Oh. I told you. Its going to be one of those days.

Big-Rig Wreck, Fire Snarls I-5

At this hour, CalTrans and VONS are working to clean up a huge mess on southbound Interstate 5.

They are picking up 60,000 pounds of meat, milk, yogurt and other groceries. They were spilled after an accident around 5 a.m.

Three lanes are still closed.

CHP does not know when they will re-open.

All northbound lanes are open.

Officials Crack Down On Metal Thefts

You know it’s serious when the FBI, Sheriff’s Department, 2 police departments and AT&T have teamed up.

Today at 1pm, representatives from each of these high-powered organizations will announce their aggressive plan to fight metal thieves.

The problem of stealing metal from manhole covers to fire hydrant connectors to copper wiring has become a huge problem across the country.

It’s gotten so out of hand, that in March a man in Fallbrook was electrocuted to death as he tried to steal wiring from power lines.
