A Bay Area family is hoping a $10,000 reward will help convince whoever stole their loved ones ashes to return them.
Costa County sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said thieves broke into a mausoleum at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette over the weekend and took an urn filled with the remains of Thomas Gonzales II.
Gonzales' family told reporters the thieves may have believed the urn was pure gold, but that it was actually made of bronze and had no real market value.
According to Gonzales' family, Thomas Gonzales was the founder of Commerce One, which is a company that did very well in the dot-com boom. Gonzales died at the young age of 35 back in following a short battle with gastric cancer.
