O.C. Wedding Via Skype

Groom and bride get creative to get hitched

A man isolated in an Orange County hospital ward fulfilled his bride's wish and married her via Skype, as she and 500 guests attended their ceremony at a nearby church.

Samuel Kim, 27, is expected to be in solitary confinement for few weeks with an undisclosed illness. But when the patient is released, he will join his very-patient new wife, Helen Oh, on a European honeymoon, reported the Orange County Register.

Oh turned to the ubiquitous Internet service when Kim broke the news that his doctors wanted him isolated and the wedding would have to be postponed, she told the newspaper. Their church, Grace Ministries, has a large sanctuary room with jumbo screens, so the logistics of a Skype wedding weren't difficult.

Also, the couple had taken engagement photos in their wedding-day finery, so he had already seen her in her wedding gown.

The web link went off without a hitch Saturday, Kim told the Orange County Register. He got a flood of texts from friends congratulating him after he tried the knot, but sat alone in his hospital bed -- for a few hours.

Oh visited him at the UCI Medical Center in Orange later that evening. The two plan to move into an apartment in La Habra together.

“The bride and groom have both been really good, considering the circumstances,” Richard Kong, the best man, told the Orange County Register. “They're in good spirits as they can be.”
