Cyclists Attacked During “World Naked Bike Ride”

Police said the attacks were unprovoked and both assailants shouted anti-gay slurs

First came the punch.  Then the anti-gay taunts.

Now, the LAPD has launched a hate-crime investigation into a violent incident during the "World Naked Bike Ride Los Angeles."

Rampart Divison detectives said two cyclists were attacked Saturday as they pedaled from Silver Lake to Echo Park.

One rider was punched and knocked to the ground by the driver of a Honda. A second attacker got out of the car and pushed another rider to the ground, then threw his bicycle at him.

Police said the attacks were unprovoked and both assailants shouted anti-gay slurs before they left the scene.

The incident was partially captured on video by a Silver Lake resident.
