Cop Accused of Broadcasting Sexual Encounter Over Radio Scanner

A Memphis police officer allegedly broadcasted a sexual encounter while on duty.

A police officer in Memphis, Tenn. has been suspended for allegedly broadcasting himself having sex in his squad car while on duty.

Fellow officers said they overheard officer Dion Anthony having sex with an unnamed woman over their radio scanners between 8:45 p.m. and 9 p.m. last Monday during his shift, MyFox Memphis reported.

“Anytime you communicate via a handheld or console microphone you want to remain professional,” MPD spokeswoman Sgt. Karen Rudolph told the TV station. “Our job is to make sure all officers follow procedures. In this instance it’s possible he didn’t follow proper procedure.”

Anthony’s alleged tryst was broadcast on an open line, meaning all 35 officers in the precinct and anybody with a police scanner had the opportunity to listen in.

With the force since July 2007, Anthony has been suspended while the Memphis Police Department investigates the allegations.
