‘Top Notch' Computers Donated to Cops

A corporate grant offers San Diego police new tools to help investigate crimes.

When officers respond to crime scenes, often they will have video evidence from the scene. Every store system can be different and formats for video can vary.

Now, Qualcomm has donated four computers to go to four different San Diego divisions – Northwestern, Midcity, Southern and Western – to help in the investigation of crimes, security alerts and processing video.

“The detectives at those divisions will be able to process all evidentiary video that comes in without a problem. They can do it quickly without having to send it downtown where it could take days or weeks Capt Miguel Rosario, commanding officer of Northwestern Division. “That slows down the momentum of the investigation and in some cases really hurts our chances to arrest people and solve crimes.”

The new computers are “top notch” according to Brian Baker, Vice President of IT at Qualcomm.

“These computers are set up perfectly to enable the police department to focus on imaging and really go after the graphics and pictures to help them with their investigations,” Baker said.

Rosario believes the system will allow officers to quickly print out wanted posters and share information between agencies.
