As the year comes to a close, YouTube has released a list of the top trending videos of 2013, including a mashup video that brings together the year's best music and memes.

This year's top video was "The Fox" by Norwegian parody-pop duo Ylvis, which racked up over 275 million views since its release in September. The song's viral success got the group their late-night debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, an "SNL" parody skit featuring Kerry Washington, and a deal for a children's book.

"The Fox" wasn't the only mock music video to hit the list.  "YOLO" featuring Adam Levine, Kendrick Lamar and comic Andy Samberg was number seven on the list, putting a pessimistic spin on the catchphrase acronym, "You Only Live Once," that was popularized by rappers Drake and Rick Ross.

The viral "Harlem Shake" meme was undoubtedly a notable phenomenon of the year, with the original army edition ranking second on YouTube's list with over 95 million views.

Other videos featured included a Chatroulette version of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" by comedian Steve Kardynal, the Evian ad "baby&me," a coffee shop promotional stunt for the latest "Carrie" movie, and an ad for Volvo Trucks featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme doing an "epic split" between two moving trucks.

YouTube also released a list of Top Trending Music Videos featuring PSY's "GENTLEMAN M/V" at the top spot, as well as three videos by Miley Cyrus: "Wrecking Ball" and We Can't Stop," and "23 (Explicit)."

The top two trending video in news were the meteorite crash in Russia, followed by explosions at the Boston Marathon

Other lists included top trending videos in news, education, pranks, sports and parodies.
