Dell Makes Bling Its Thing

Computer maker emphasizes image over machines' substance

Today marks a continued shift by Dell to downplay the guts 'n' going-ons inside their machines while focusing instead on image.

The company has formed alliances with both the Major League Baseball association and OPI — an international nail polish and fashion company — and has put together a collection of 300 designs from various artists.

It's all part of the Dell Design Studio, which will allow you to deck your laptop out with original art, logos from your favorite baseball teams or liquidy designs that change with the seasonal trends in nail polish.

Absent from Dell's press conference? One mention of a processor, hard drive size, or graphics card — we weren't treated to even a single spec. What we did get, however, was a look at the snake-like string of Swarovski crystals you see on the lid of the laptop above.

It was all about the look and we think Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI executive VP and artistic director, just about summed it up: "You can match your nails to your emails!" Check out more of Dell's design-heavy push in the gallery on Dvice.com.
