Wave your phone at another driver on the highway, and you're freeway flirting. Soon, you can wave it at a cash register and get a receipt -- because you just paid for that sweet, seasonal sweater.

Google is thinking about moving into mobile payments, according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek. It's a crowded space, with credit card companies -- and Apple -- looking to build easier ways to help you part with your money.

The technology is called near-field communication (NFC). Basically, it's a four-inch commercial force field, emanating from a phone.

And this area seems to be more than a little lucrative, with a $1.13 trillion market estimated for 2014.

That's a pie that Google, and everyone else, would like a hefty slice of.
