Undefeated Zenyatta will run in the 9th race Saturday at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in an attempt to raise her record to 18-0.
The most popular celebrity at the Del Mar track in recent memory had to be Zenyatta.
Now, after her recent selection as Horse of the Year, Zenyatta will be mentioned with the likes of Seabiscuit and Secretariat.
Undefeated Zenyatta competed at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in August in an attempt to raise her record to 18-0. That streak included two previous wins at Del Mar over the past two years.
"She just has this sweet personality about her and she really bonds with people," Zenyatta's trainer John Shirreffs said to NBCSanDiego at the time. "A lot of times she shows a really kind side."
After Zenyatta's designation as Horse of the Year Monday, Shirreffs called her a miracle.
The remarkable mare retired with a 19-1 record after losing to Blame in the Breeder's Cup Classic, a race she had won the previous year.
