Wieland Wins

It has been a long road back to the majors for Padres starter Joe Wieland. In just his second start since reconstructive surgery on his pitching elbow in 2012 Wieland collected his first big-league victory as the Padres outlasted the visiting Rockies 4-3 in their last home game of 2014.

Wieland (1-0) pitched into the sixth inning, allowing three runs with one strikeout. Tommy Medica provided most of the offense. His three-run homer in the bottom of the first put the Padres up for good.

The Friars finish the season with a four-game series in San Francisco beginning Thursday.
