UC San Diego has built a tremendous baseball program. But, it is still a Division II program. Typically, of the approximately 1220 picks in each year’s MLB Draft, only about 70, around 6-percent, come out of Division II schools.
So why have professional scouts been flocking by the dozen to watch the Tritons this season? Because of one man: Justin Donatella.
Donatella is 6-foot-6 and weighs 225 pounds with a fastball in the low-to-mid 90’s, a swing-and-miss slider and what he calls a, “changeup in development.”
