Over the weekend, San Diegan and skateboard icon Tony Hawk was in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates rubbing elbows with other elite athletes from around the world and trying his hand at sandboarding.
Then suddenly, it's Monday.
The couple filed for divorce in North San Diego County on Friday, according to People Magazine.
"We remain deeply committed and loving parents to our daughter, and out of respect for that responsibility we ask that people honor our family's privacy during this important time of transition," the couple announced in a joint statement.
In January 2006, Lhotse Merriam became Hawk’s third wife in a ceremony on the island of Tavarua. Their daughter Kadence was born in July 2008.
In 1996, Hawk married Erin Lee with whom he had sons Spencer and Keegan. They divorced in 2004.
He and Cindy Dunbar married in April 1990 and lived in Fallbrook. The couple had a son Riley before divorcing in 1994.
Hawk, a popular figure on Twitter, made no mention of the announcement to his 2 million+ followers as of 1:30 p.m. PT Monday.
The joint statement described the decision as a difficult one for the couple.
