Chargers' Darrell Stuckey Is Livin' the Dream

Chargers rookie Darrell Stuckey sometimes finds himself yawning before a big game, but not because he’s bored.

The strong safety talked with our media partners at DiscoverSD about his pre-game ritual.

There’s no special socks or blood-pumping music involved.

“I’m more of a mellow guy before a game,” Stuckey told the website. “ I’m very energetic (but) I like to contain my energy and really express everything else.”

Stuckey, who was selected by the Chargers in the fourth round, hails from Kansas City where he attended college and played safety for the Jayhawks.

In his first days practicing at training camp, Stuckey’s professional attitude helped him make a good first impression with his teammates.

As for that yawning before the game thing…

“I like to calm my nerves, a lot positive self-talk, and (I like to) think through my responsibilities on the field and kind of mellow out and relax,” he said.

“Sometimes my body gets so relaxed, I might start yawning, and I’m not even tired,” he said.
