Snow comes to the UCSD campus for amateur snowboard and ski competition. The Cricket Wireless Campus Rail Jam Tour is open to the public and free.
It's crazy! Tons of snow on a college campus and snowboards riding goofy down the trail.
The ski season might be over on the major slopes but not at UCSD where snow will be piled high for the Cricket Wireless Campus Rail Jam Tour April 30. It takes snowboarding and skiing off the slopes and into the hearts of college campuses says Taylor Murray spokesperson for the tour. And it's free and open to the public.
Thousands of snowboarders and skiers from across the country will jam their way down a mountain of 25 tons of snow created from block ice. The snowboarding course will be 20 feet tall by 100 feet long. The competitors will vy for cash and prizes. It's all about promoting the amateur snowboard and ski scene, although the competition is more lobsided toward the snowboard scene.
The 12-event tour will stop at various college campuses in eight states throughout the year, from Boulder to Boise to Salt Lake City to San Diego. Last year the finals, which took place in Portland, Oregon drew a crowd of over 3000 people.
