After reaching on an infield single John McDonald went to second on a sacrifice. He scored when Adam Eaton tripled. The Diamondbacks got the go-ahead run on an Edinson Volquez balk. Later in the inning back-to-back doubles by Justin Upton and Paul Goldschmidt gave Arizona a 4-2 lead.
Other than that inning Volquez had a solid outing. He pitched eight innings and allowed no walks, but still took the loss. Volquez is now 10-11 on the season.
Left fielder Carlos Quentin had to leave the game after batting in the fifth. Quentin's knee was giving him problems all night. It became apparent after misplaying a couple of fly balls in the fourth inning he would not likely finish the game.
