SDSU West Initiative to Start Signature Gathering Process

Mission Valley redevelopment proposal push gets going on Saturday

For the third time in about 18 months San Diego is going to go through a signature gathering process.

On Saturday, October 21, Friends of SDSU will be officially launching the effort to procure the 71,000 valid signatures needed to get the SDSU West citizens’ initiative onto a ballot. The initiative (officially called the SDSU West Campus Research Center, Stadium, and River Park Initiative) is an attempt for SDSU to redevelop the land in Mission Valley where SDCCU Stadium now sits.

Friends of SDSU says nearly 75 signature gatherers will be at multiple locations around the City of San Diego starting Saturday. Just like the Chargers’ failed Measure C and the pending Soccer City initiatives, the SDSU expansion will have to get enough registered voters to sign on saying they want a chance to vote on the proposal in 2018.

They have until the end of December, 2017, to turn in enough valid signatures.

Signature gatherers will also be around for events leading up to the homecoming football game, a 7:30 p.m. kickoff between San Diego State and Fresno State at SDCCU Stadium. Four booths will be located around the tailgating areas.
