With 71-64 Double OT Win, SDSU Heads to Sweet 16

San Diego State University is going to the Sweet 16 with a 71-64 win over Temple University.

No. 2 SDSU and No. 7 Temple went into overtime not once but twice in the third round of NCAA tournament play Saturday.

Billy White had 16 points and 13 rebounds and Kawhi Leonard sealed San Diego State's exhausting, thrilling victory with a steal and a slam dunk.

White sank the go-ahead jumper and Leonard made two free throws as the second-seeded Aztecs (34-2) used one last burst of their magnificent athleticism to finally put away the pesky, No. 7 seed Owls (26-7).

"We found a way to win it," Coach Steve Fisher said after the game.

Ramone Moore scored 17 for Temple, which was coming off a 66-64 last-second victory over Penn State in the second round.

San Diego State, never an NCAA tournament winner before this season, advanced to the West regional semifinals Thursday in Anaheim, Calif., against the winner of Saturday night's Cincinnati-Connecticut matchup.

For fans who didn't catch the game, the first OT started when the teams were 54-54. The teams entered double OT with the score 61-61.

SDSU had the upper hand 36-31 when they entered the second half but it was a quiet first half for Kawhi Leonard with only two points and three rebounds.

The rollercoaster ride for Aztecs fans was almost too much to handle at times.  "Double overtime, double heartburn double awesomeness," posted Chris Cantore via Twitter.

Halfway through the game the Aztecs were 4 for 6 from 3-point line. Aztecs scored just 18 points in the second half and they didn't shoot a single free throw.

Throughout the game, the Aztecs missed key opportunities to score prompting some foul language from Coach Steve Fisher and cries from fans to get it together.

Ramone Moore scored 17 for Temple, which was coming off a 66-64 last-second victory over Penn State in the second round.
