Rivera to the Rescue

Rene Rivera had a career game at the plate. Only this time it wasn't from behind the dish with his glove. Instead he did it with his bat.

Rivera went 2-for-5, driving in a career-high 5 runs for the Padres. His three-run homer in the fifth gave the Padres a lead they would not give up.

Starter Tyson Ross (3-3) pitched into the sixth inning to get his second win over the Giants in the past eleven days.

The Padres (13-14) 6-4 win in San Francisco got them within two and a half games of the division leading Giants (15-11). Tuesday Eric Stults takes the mound for the Padres. He'll face Matt Cain.
