Raiders Face the Return of Beanie Wells

Oakland Raiders fans may quite correctly expect a comedy of errors this Sunday when journeyman quarterback Derek Anderson takes on the Raiders' defense. In eight games last season with the Cleveland Browns, the flat-footed Anderson threw three touchdowns and ten interceptions for a 42.1 rating.

But Sunday against the Raiders, Anderson has one of his top weapons back.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports with no ifs, ands, or beans that Cardinals running back Beanie Wells will make his 2010 debut Sunday against the Raiders. Wells had bruised his right knee in Arizona's final preseason game, and has not yet played in a regular season game this year.

You may love his name, but when fully healthy that Beanie Wells guy can hurt you. Wells was the Cardinals' top rusher as a rookie last season with nearly 800 yards, and ranked second only to Knowshon Moreno among all rookie backs.

Run defense is probably the Raiders' second-biggest liability, next to their offensive line. These guys are giving up 140 yards rushing a game, good for fourth-worst in the league.

It doesn't help that defensive end Richard Seymour has been limited all week with hamstring injury. But Seymour told the Sacramento Bee's Paul Gutierrez, "I'll be ready."

Joe Kukura is a freelance writer who gives Derek Anderson credit for that one good year he had in 2007.
