Phils Down Pads with Walk-off Homer

The Padres lack of offense is getting downright offensive. For the 11th time this season they failed to score and their five hits is the most the Padres have had in a nine inning game this month.

Both starters threw well and combined to pitch fifteen scoreless innings. Cole Hamels struck out eleven and gave up only five hits in eight innings of work for the Phillies. Tyson Ross left the game after seven innings. The Padres starter struck out seven and allowed just four hits.

Scoreless heading into the bottom of the ninth, Nick Vincent came on in relief for the Padres. After striking out Marlon Byrd he walked Dominic Brown. Vincent then hit Carlos Ruiz with a pitch, sending Brown to second. Up came Reid Brignac. He connected on a 2-0 fastball, depositing it into the right field bleachers at Citizens Bank Park for a 3-0 Phillies win. It was his second walk-off hit in the past two weeks.

Vincent (0-2) took the loss. Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon (2-1) got the win. The final game of the series is at 10:05 AM PDT Thursday.
