Peavy Pastes The Padres

Jake shuts down his former team's bats by the Bay

He'd never say it publicly but something tells me Jake Peavy does not just want to beat the Padres. He wants to really stick it to the Padres.

The former San Diego ace did just that on Friday night, pitching the Giants to a 9-1 win in San Francisco. Peavy was ruthlessly efficient, giving up one run in 7.0 innings and only needing 79 pitches to do it. To really pour salt in the wound Jake drove in as many runs as he let in.

In the 5th inning Peavy had an RBI single to put the Giants up 5-1 and chase San Diego starter Andrew Cashner. Cash suffered from some self-inflicted damage, walking five San Francisco hitters and putting himself in tough situations for most of his abbreviated night.

Justin Upton drove in the only run of the game for the Friars with a solo home run. The only other positive offensive note for San Diego came from Matt Kemp, who singled in the 9th inning to extend his streak of consecutive games reaching base to 31 straight.

He only needs 53 more to tied the MLB record held by San Diego native Ted Williams.
