The Padres’ 2014 preseason schedule just got mas caliente. The team announced they will play a March 27 exhibition game with the popular Mexico City Red Devils (Rojos Diablos Del Mexico) at Petco Park.

“We look forward to starting the 2014 baseball season in San Diego with this unique game for fans from both sides of the border,” said Tom Seidler, a member of the Padres ownership group.

The Diablos Rojos play in the Mexican League, a Triple-A affiliate of Major League Baseball. The team has numerous ties to the Padres. Owner Alfredo Harp is also part of the Padres’ ownership group. Manager Miguel Ojeda played for San Diego from 2003-05.

The Padres start their exhibition season March 1 with a game against the Kansas City Royals. The game with the Diablos Rojos kicks off three exhibition games at Petco Park, followed by the March 31 season opener at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Diablos Rojos have won 15 Mexican League championship since the team’s inception in 1940, last winning in 2008, and have an impressive streak of 33 straight playoff appearances. They played exhibition games at the Texas Rangers the past two seasons, losing both.
