When the Padres reacquired pitcher Colin Rea from Miami Monday it kind of felt like the Marlins went back to the customer service desk and showed their receipt to demand a refund.
New Padres starter Jarred Cosart however was not returned to sender. He wound up having a wild and dramatic debut in San Diego's 7-3 win over the Brewers.
The right-hander lasted just 3.1 innings against Milwaukee Monday evening and struggled with his location, walking six batters including the opposing pitcher once.
But Cosart only allowed one hit and avoided making a big mistake to one of the Milawaukee hitters when he was in the game. He left the game with a 1-0 lead but was not eligible to earn the victory.
You could tell the young pitcher was laboring on the mound and Andy Green ultimately took him out with two men on base in the 4th.
Milwaukee starter Jimmy Nelson also struggled to find the strike zone.
Nelson only lasted four innings because he could not record an out in the 5th. That was when the Friars grabbed control of the contest.

Alexi Amarista provided a RBI single, Yangerivs Solarte followed that up with a 2-run single, and then Ryan Schimpf cranked a triple to make it 5-2 Padres.
Adam Rosales added a sacrifice fly and San Diego never trailed the rest of the way.
Lead-off man Travis Jankowski had a big day for the Padres offense. The young centerfielder reached base five times and recorded a career-high three hits.
Jankowski also finished with two steals, two walks and two runs scored.
The only damage from the visitors came on a pair of homers.
Milwaukee third baseman Hernan Perez smashed a two-run shot in the 5th inning off of eventual winner Carlos Villanueva and Chris Carter hit a solo shot off of Brad Hand in the 8th inning.
San Diego’s Derek Norris received a nice ovation form the hometown fans when he stepped to the plate for his first at-bat after the trade deadline passed.
There was speculation that the Padres were trying to trade the veteran catcher before Monday’s 1 p.m. cut-off for non-waiver deals but the team ultimately decided to keep him on the club.
San Diego faces Milwaukee again Tuesday evening at 7:10 p.m. when Luis Perdomo opposes Brewers starting pitcher Zach Davies.
