Padres Take Series From Dodgers

The Padres used a mix of defense, timely hitting and solid pitching to defeat the Dodgers 4-3.

    Tommy Lane and Yasmani Grandal had reason to celebrate after taking 2-of-3 in L.A.

    Chase Headley continues to swing a hot bat. With two on in the first he doubled off the center field wall that brought in two. Yasmani Grandal added an infield single to make it 3-0 Padres after one inning.

    The Dodgers scratched back and had a chance to take the lead in the seventh. Trailing by a run with one on Matt Kemp sent a shot to center off Padres reliever Brad Boxberger. Cameron Maybin made a home run saving catch to end the threat.

    Tommy Lane recorded the save, getting Adrian Gonzalez to ground out to end the game.

    Padres starter Clayton Richard, normally an inning eater, didn't make it out of the fifth inning. Seven Padres pitchers were used in the 4-3 victory. Nick Vincent (2-0) got the win for the Friars.

    The Padres begin a nine game home stand Friday against Arizona.
