Padres Swing And Miss A Lot In Philly

San Diego Strikes Out 14 Times In Loss

When you think of the Philadelphia Phillies starting pitching, you conjure up names like Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels. Guys who's won Cy Young Awards and been named World Series MVP.

Vance Worley is not on that list. Well, not unless he's facing the Padres.

Worley and the Phillies beat San Diego 7-3 in Philadelphia on Friday night. Vance gave up 3 runs in six innings to get the win. Two of his three victories this year have come against the Padres. Worley struck out 9 Padres batters. A pair of Philly relievers came in to whiff five more, giving the Friars a crowd-pleasing 14 punchouts on the night.

One of the very few bright spots for the Padres has been 1st baseman Yonder Alonso. The kid had a pair of hits, including his first home run as a Padre, to lift his season average to an even .300. The 25-year-old who's in his first full big league season has had multiple hits in 4 of his last 7 games. In the last week and a half, he's raised his average 53 points.
