Turnabout is fair play. On Monday Seattle had superior pitching and hit three home runs off Padres starter Clayton Richard en route to a 9-0 win.
Tuesday just the opposite occurred. Friars ace Edinson Volquez (4-5) pitched into the eighth inning allowing just one run on four hits. Jedd Gyorko and Alexi Amarista homered off of Seattle starter Brandon Maurer (2-7) as the Padres cruised to a 6-1 win at Safeco Field.
In his return from a 50-game suspension for using performance enhancing drugs Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal was 1-for-4 and scored a run.
In a scheduling oddity the teams pick up where they left off tomorrow in San Diego, for another two game series, this time at Petco Park.
