If Tuesday’s contest against the Rays was a video game, the Padres would have pressed the restart button.
Unfortunately, no one has publicly come forth with a time machine so the Padres will have to live with the 15-1 loss they suffered Tuesday in Tampa.
The Rays torched starter Edwin Jackson for eight runs on nine hits. The right-hander only lasted four innings.
Jackon’s replacement didn’t fare much better.
Carlos Villanueva also pitched four innings and struggled as well. He allowed seven runs on seven hits.
Brad Miller (no, not the former NBA player) crushed two homers to turn this one into a laugher.
The Rays wound up smashing a total of five home runs before the game was over, torching Villanueva’s ERA in the process (6.09).

Jackson’s ERA now hovers at 5.36.
The only run for the Padres came in the 4th when Alexei Ramirez forced in a run after he drew a bases loaded walk.
Rays starter Blake Snell then struck out Wil Myers and Yangervis Solarte to get out of the jam, despite both Padres fouling off multiple pitches.
Snell struck out eight batters in five innings and scattered five hits to earn the victory.
San Diego dropped to 2-6 with the getaway game of the 9-game road trip scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
