SAN FRANCISCO, CA - SEPTEMBER 27: Manager Bud Black #20 of the San Diego Padres signals the bullpen to make a pitching change, taking Burch Smith #26 out of the game in the six inning against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park on September 27, 2013 in San Francisco, California. Padres starter Burch Smith is only 23 years old, and has an extremely live arm. As soon as he perfects the art of locating his pitches he's going to be something else.

We got to see the good and the bad of Burch Smith on Friday night in San Francisco. He struck out eight batters in just 5.1 innings, but also gave up three home runs in the Giants' 7-3 win.

Fellow Padres rookie Jedd Gyorko had another nice night at the plate with three hits and his team-leading 57th RBI.

The Padres and Giants are now tied for 3rd place in the National League West with two games to play.
