Padres Lose In Desert

The D'backs got a boost from an unlikely source. Brandon McCarthy took a 2-8 record into Monday's game against the Padres, but pitched seven strong innings to record the win.

Paul Goldschmidt drove in two runs for Arizona and added to his NL-leading RBI total (103). Tyson Ross (3-7) took the loss for the Padres. He pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs off of seven hits. In the 6-1 loss Padres batters managed just five hits. Each team had one error.

Game two of the three game series is Tuesday night at Chase Field.
