Padres Earn Split with Cubs

The Padres wrapped their throwback weekend in their camouflage uniforms. Starting pitcher Ian Kennedy was solid again. He went 6 innings, giving up just one run on 2 hits and striking out 6.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth Kennedy was lifted for a pinch-hitter and his teammates responded by scoring four runs. Carlos Quentin's single scored the go-ahead run. Jedd Gyorko drove in two more.

The Cubs made things interesting in the ninth. Closer Huston Street made a rare mistake. After walking Anthony Rizzo, Street gave up a two-run homer to Starlin Castro and all of the sudden the Padres lead was down to one. Street settled down and got the next three batters to notch his 14th save of the season.

The Padres won it 4-3 to split the four-game series with the Cubs. The Friars play in Arizona on Monday.
