Padres Complete Sweep of Reds

San Diego takes three from Cincinnati, finishes winning homestand

When Hunter Renfroe hits a baseball hard he hits it REALLY REALLY hard.

The Padres rookie demolished his 14th homer of the season in a 4-2 win over the Reds on Wednesday at Petco Park. Renfroeโ€™s shot came in the 6th inning against Cincinnati starter Amir Garrett. Renfroeโ€™s 14 homers before the All-Star break matches the San Diego franchise record for pre-break homers by a rookie, set by Nate Colbert all the way back in 1969.

Renfroe was not the only rookie that made an impact. Franchy Cordero continued to show he can be an impact big leaguer.

In the 7th inning Cordero snapped a 2-2 tie with an RBI single to right-center then took 2nd base on the throw, showing off impressive speed. Renfroe followed with an RBI groundout to put San Diego up 4-2.

That was enough to get Jhoulys Chacin another win at home. Chacin allowed two runs, both on solo homers, in 7.0 innings to get the win.

The Padres swept Cincinnati, their second sweep in the last three series at Petco Park, to finish a 4-2 homestand. The Friars get a day off then hit the road to start a weekend set in Milwaukee against the Brewers on Friday.
