Padres Beat Cardinals Again

A five run 4th inning lifts Padres to 6-4 win, their second in a row over the Redbirds.

It wasn't looking good for the Padres early. For three innings Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright kept them hitless. Heading into the bottom of the fourth he had a 2-0 lead. That was all about to change.

After an error,  two infield singles and a walk the Padres cut the lead to one. After a Logan Forsythe double the Padres had a 3-2 lead. Alexi Amarista drove in two more with a triple to the right field corner.

The Cardinals scored a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to cut the Padres lead to 5-4.

In the eighth Yonder Alonzo doubled to give him 34 on the season, breaking the Padres rookie record set by Benito Santiago in 1987. He scored on a Cameron Maybin single to give the Padres a two run lead.

Luke Gregerson got the final five outs for his sixth save. Volquez pitched into the sixth inning and got the win, evening his record at 10-10.

The Padres go for the series sweep Wednesday.
