Padres Bats Come Alive to Tie Series against Braves

A Night of First for the Young Friars at Petco Park

The Padres were looking to tie up the series against the Braves in the second of three games at Petco Park Wednesday night. Friars righty Luis Perdomo went five scoreless innings and notched his third victory of the season with a 7-4 win against Atlanta.

Cory Spangenberg got the ball rolling for San Diego. In the bottom of the first the infielder doubled to left field bringing home Manuel Margot and Hunter Renfroe. His RBI double put the Padres up 2-0.

The Padres bats were just warming up. San Diego had a three run lead in the third inning when Carlos Asuaje singled to right field and brought Wil Myers home. Asuaje had 3 hits on the night for a career high.

It was certainly a night of first for the Padres. In the fourth inning, Hunter Renfroe hit his first big league triple and drove in two more runs as a result. At that point it looked like the Friars were on the road to a shut-out after building a 6-0 lead.

Matt Kemp was there to play spoiler when the former Padre singled to center and scored Nick Markakis. That put the Braves on the board and the Padres would fight to hang on to their four run lead. Atlanta just couldn’t catch up and San Diego walked off the field with a victory.

The series finale is Thursday night at 6:10 p.m. PST at Petco Park.
