The Padres pulled away with three eighth inning runs to defeat the Diamondbacks 5-1. In that inning Will Venable hit a solo homer, his 20th of the season and Jesus Guzman connected for his 8th of the year. Both were off former Padre Heath Bell. The two accounted for all 5 Padres RBI's (Venable 3 / Guzman 2).

Robbie Erlin, just back up in the big leagues, pitched six solid innings to get the win and even his record at 2-2.

With the 5-1 win the Padres avoided a sweep in Arizona. They are off Thursday then play a three game series in Los Angeles beginning Friday.
