On the first pitch of the game Alexi Amarista doubled to extend his hitting streak to 8 games. On the next pitch Logan Forsythe singled to drive Amarista in. After two pitches it was 1-0 Padres. Just under two hours later that would be the final score.

Volquez (7-7) was on point all night. The Astros only hit came in the fourth. With a man on first Matt Downs hit a bleeder between the mound and third base. Volquez tried to field the ball ahead of a charging Chase Headley. By the time he got a grip on the ball J.D. Martinez was already on the second base bag and Downs was on first with a single.

Volquez struck out five, walking only three. In 110 major league starts it was his first complete game and only the second this season for the Padres.

The 1-0 victory made it five wins in their last six games. The Colorado Rockies are at PETCO Park for a three game series starting Friday.
