Oceanside Caps Decade with Second State Title

Backed up to its 1-yard line with the game hanging in the balance, the Oceanside High football team put together a drive for the ages.

Led by quarterback Quentis Clark, the Pirates assembled a 17-play, 99-yard scoring drive that consumed more than seven minutes and gave them the lead for good in the CIF state Division I bowl game. Clark finished the drive with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Whittaker, and the eventual 24-19 victory over San Jose Bellarmine Prep on Friday at Home Depot Center gave Oceanside its second state title in three years.

The win extended Oceanside's unbeaten streak to 39 games, its winning streak to 17, and gave the Pirates a 109-18-3 record for the decade.
