New Star Wars Trailer to Air During Olympics

Long-awaited new look at Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to air on NBC

If Star Wars fans were not in to the Olympics before, they sure are going to be now.

During Thursday's prime time coverage of the Rio Olympic Games on NBC 7, the highly anticipated second trailer for the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will finally be seen. On Monday a teaser for the teaser hit the internet:

There is no word yet on how long the trailer will be or exactly when it will be shown during the broadcast but it's a smart move by both LucasFilm and NBC. Plenty of Star Wars fans were disappointed that a new trailer was not revealed during San Diego Comic-Con but with the way Warner Bros. and DC were lighting up YouTube with looks at Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and Justice League it makes sense that Disney would wait for that hype to die down.

Enter the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio. Thursday night is expected to be one of the most popular nights of the Olympics because the women's gymnastics all-around final will take place. Team America is expected to win at least one, if not two medals in that event.

People watching simpily for Rogue One might be in for another treat. During July's Star Wars Celebration event a version of a new trailer was shown (amazingly a clear version of it has not leaked online since) and at the end of it there was a very brief shot of ... Darth Vader, accompanied by the trademark breathing.

If that is, indeed, added to the trailer to air during the Olympics, and the U.S. wins gymnastics gold, it could make for the greatest night in the history of television. Or maybe it will just be really, really cool.
